Chapter 12
2C System
Card:
- 2H-5 hearts, 2 of top 3, 8+HCP
- 2S-5+ spades, 2 of top 3, 8+HCP
- 3CDH-6+, 2 of top 3, 8+HCP
- Forcing to 2NT
- Only NF auction is 2C-2H-2N
- 2C-2H-2S is forcing to 2NT
- Kokish with Flip: 2C-2D-2H-2S: Flipping bids for 3C and 3H
- 3C 6+H (because this comes up more, allows partner to bid 3H, then hearts established, huge benefit)
- After this, 3D is weak artificial bid, making 3H NF (or could bid on showing short hearts and long diamonds, not weak)
- 3S or 3NT, would deny 2# H
- 3D H&D
- 3H slow arrival
- 3H H&C
- 4D good hand and hearts. No other way to say that
- 3S H&S
- Clubs set hearts, diamonds set spades
- 2NT and 3NT, see NT ranges, systems on
- Shouldn’t fast arrival with one KC
- JS splinter with support
- Fit more important than right-siding NT, so must have 5-card suit
- With multiple places to play, bid 2NT and let partner show hand
- 2C-2D-2S
- JS splinters
- 3S/4S slow/fast
- Bergen plays 3NT is 4-card support, because you would never jump to that (discuss)
- 2C-2D-3C
- 3D waiting: looking for 4-4 major
- 3H/S: Show 5-card majors
- 3NT to play
- 4C/5C: slow/fast
- 4D: redwood
- 4NT: quant
- 2C-2D-3D (brutal, avoid if possible, really hard to find 44 major):
- 3HS/4C: still 5-card suit (might have to lie with good 4-card major)
- 3NT: to play
- Slow/fast arrival
- 4H redwood
- 4NT quantitative
- 2C-2D-3M (sets trump):
- No more than one trump loser opposite void
- Serious and Non-Serious 3NT applies
- 2C-2D-4m (sets trump):
- Same idea, limited replies, usually only doing this if you know you’re going past 3NT anyway
Standard: X=0-3, P=better- New Way: Better to play X=takeout + values, shortness in that suit, then if they leap to 4S you know you have support in the other suits. New urgency to show a 5-card new suit.
