Minor suit structure

Card:
  • Opening: Open all 12 point hands, usually pass 11 vul Open all 11
  • Responding: Walsh majors before minors except GF
  • 1m-3m Mixed: 7-10 HCP, no 4-card major
  • 1m-2m GF: show stoppers, min 3m or jump splinters, forcing to 3m no matter what
  • 1m-2m-3NT: 16-17 balanced
  • 1D-3C: we play criss cross, Gavin plays 3U 6+ Inv, openers bids are F

> After 1D-2C (may have 4#M):

  • Bid 5+ D 1st: 2D: 5+ any hand; 2HS: Natural denies 5#D
  • 2N: below or above 1NT range, balanced
  • 3C: Natural 3+#
  • 3D: 6+ (1-loser suit) 16+
  • 3HS: Splinter 4+# (doesn’t promise extras)
  • Not standard:
  • 2NT weak: weak raise
  • 3m Mixed: mixed raise
  • JS om: limit raise, jump shift other minor
  • XX then minor raise is GF

After minor opening with 5 and 4-5, by UPH, PH or after opponent’s takeout double.
  • 2 \< Invitational, any HCP if non-vulnerable or 55
  • 2 = Invitational, (note: very rare by PH, so must be 5+ 5+, 9HCP if only 55)
  • Not doing this and bidding spades then hearts is GF

Opener rebids:

  • To Play: P, 2 over 2, 3NT, 4, 5
  • Ace Ask: 4NT ace ask not RKC, 5c=04, 5D=1, etc
  • Natural Minor: 3/, natural NF
  • Invitational: 3M invites
  • Asking 2NT (asks responder range and if 55):
  • 3-min 54,
  • 3-min 55,
  • 3 non-min 54,
  • 3 non-min 55,
  • 3NT natural.
